Connections. September 2020

After an August break, we’re back for the busy autumn season, and it’s already shaping up to be a record breaking month for publishing!

With delayed titles finally being released at the same time as titles hitting shelves (physical and digital!) ahead of Christmas, the industry saw the highest sales yet throughout the week of ‘Super Thursday’. Of course, all this excitement isn’t confined to bricks and mortar shops alone, and we’ve seen our own clients utilising Glassboxx to maximise sales – but more on this later.

In the meantime, you may be seeing more of us across the IPG and Bookseller, as we prepare for the autumn conference and, of course, this years’ digital Frankfurt Book Fair.

We will also be sponsoring Book Machine’s Talking Marcomm’s event at the end of this month, which will focus on creating distinctive and effective marketing campaigns. Bringing in authors, booksellers, publishers and readers into the conversation is something that we have been working on, as we focus on ways in which Glassboxx can be used not only to facilitate sales, but to create them.

Glassboxx Dashboard

We’ve been busy initiating several hashtag campaigns across social media – all with a view to getting the word out on the best ways that Glassboxx can be used to sell your eBooks and audiobooks!

We hope our #TopTipTuesday posts have been providing a little inspiration on how to make the best use of Glassboxx.., and that our #FeatureFriday posts are keeping you up to date with all the latest features.

Please do follow our accounts on social media, and join our Glassboxx community on Facebook for more content designed to help you make the most of Glassboxx.

Next to launch will be our #eBookWednesday campaign, where we will be encouraging all our clients (and would-be clients) to shout about their latest releases with the hashtag – and we’re also providing some images for you to embed too…

We have also launched a blog, which you can find over at firstynews.com. Our latest post ‘Five Things You Should Know About Glassboxx’ is handy for those curious about Glassboxx, as well as those already onboard.

App UpdatesOur most exciting update, particularly in the wake of Super Thursday, is pre-orders!

Pre-orders seem to have exploded across the retail industry in lockdown. This function, if you haven’t already begun using it, allows you to begin making sales before your book is even published – building your customer base and ramping up excitement and anticipation around upcoming releases…

Pre-orders and the buzz around them often make up a key part of the marketing of big releases, and comes with great advantages. We have seen success so far with Canbury Press’s ‘How to Be A Liberal’, by Ian Dunt.

Top TipsWe have been seeing an increase in publishers promoting their books across social media, and one of the best ways of doing this, especially at this time of year, is by advertising pre-orders. Canbury Press have done this to great success with Ian Dunt’s How To Be A Liberal, even breaking into the top 20 of the UK Official chart for non-fiction hardbacks, on pre-orders alone! With the eBook and audiobook format available to pre-order through Glassboxx, there was huge potential for promotion across multiple channels. Ian Dunt himself took advantage of this, tweeting about it to his 301k following. A big online response followed, along with a boost in sales – titles really do get more and more popular with every Tweet!

Another publisher that has been promoting their books across social media is Trafalgar Square Books – we have been discussing bringing authors into the conversation in the same way, so that books can be promoted not only across publisher channels, but author channels also – Amy, from Trafalgar Books, had this to say –

“I have to say we are very excited about Glassboxx and being able to sell e-books and audiobooks through you and NOT Amazon! The feedback we have received has been very positive. We mostly promote through our own e-blasts, website, and social media outlets but have been trying to get authors on board with your suggestions. Thank you again for taking the time to look at our account and our books and making some great suggestions. We are looking forward to working with Glassboxx for a very long time!”

We’re thrilled to see Glassboxx working in this way, and we’re loving working with our clients to create a buzz around their latest releases!

Coming Soon

Multi-Currency

We’re very aware that many of you have been waiting patiently for multi currency availability – and we had to push this back to focus on a couple of other elements which required fine-tuning.

However, we’re confident that this feature will be added to the Vendor+ checkout route imminently, enabling your customers to pay in either GBP, USD, EUR or CAD. We’ll ping out a newsflash once this goes live.

Glassboxx Shopify App

We’ve been involved in deep, and somewhat convoluted, discussions with Shopify over the last few weeks, in an attempt to launch our app for the Shopify app store, and we’re hoping we’ve now reached the final strait. Again – you’ll be the first to know once this launches.
